Amager Bryghus Arctic SunStone (6%): American Pale Ale. Samarbejdsbryg med Three Floyds.
The sunstone – much disputed among scholars. Did the Viking navigators really have such a tool that would help them point out what was east and what was west – even on a less than sunny day? We certainly believe so.
Many years later no sunstone was needed when Amager Bryghus was invaded by what very much looked like Viking ancestors of American descent. Hailing from Munster, Indiana, Chris Boggess and Barnaby Struve of Three Floyds Brewing arrived not with a vengeance but with very loud King Diamond on their portable mp3 player.
This was not a day for slaughter but for brewing. And brew we did. The mellow and dangerously quaffable Arctic Sun- Stone is proof that even Viking warriors can have a more subtle side to them. All hail to Three Floyds.
Ingredients: Water. Malts: Pale, Munich, Melanoidin. Hops: Tomahawk, Citra, Centennial, Simcoe. Yeast: UK-ale.
Amager Bryghus Gnädige Frau (10%): Marshmallow Stout. Imperial Stout. Samarbejdsbryg med Off Color Brewing.
When the best little liquor store in Chicago asks you to make them a celebration beer, it’s an honor you simply cannot refuse. West Lakeview Liquors has been owned and run by the Bozic family for 25 years, and that indeed calls for something unique and different.
Our signature Imperial Stout, Hr. Frederiksen, has always been a popular beer in the store. And with that beer as a base, master brewer John Laffler from Off Color Brewing – and longtime friend of both Amager Bryghus and West Lakeview Liquors – was given free hands to add his very personal touch. The result is this collaboration: “Gnädige Frau – Marshmallow Stout” – combining a trademark Danish beer with the very American campfire treat a s’more.
The name of the beer is a tribute to Kristina Bozic, the current owner of West Lakeview Liquors who personally and enthusiastically took part in the brewing here at Amager Bryghus, slicing vanilla beans and marshmallows and crushing graham crackers with a meat hammer! A sweet and unique lady requires a very special beer. We believe “Gnädige Frau” to be exactly that. Enjoy!
Ingredients: Water. Malts: Pilsener, Pale, Biscuit, Munich, Cara-Munich, Wheat, Black, Chocolate and Roasted Barley. Molasses, White sugar, Graham crackers, Vanilla beans, Cocoa beans, Marshmallows. Hops: Tomahawk. Yeast: US-ale.
Amager Bryghus The Great Big Kentucky Sausage Fest (7,7%): Imperial Brown Ale. Samarbejdsbryg med Against The Grain.
We expected banjos and Bourbon but received nothing of that sort. Instead our brew day with the handsome fellers of Against The Grain Brewery from Louisville, Kentucky turned into a hotdog eating contest. Yep, no kiddin’.
Big Kentuckian feller, Sam, challenged our own big feller, Jacob, as to who could down the most gourmet hotdogs, big and spicy as they were with specialty toppings. Well, Sam should never have done that….should you Sam?
However, a beer was indeed brewed in between all the trash talk and wieners. We hope you’ll enjoy this hoppy Imperial Brown Ale – it was designed to go with hotdogs in particular and other spicy and smoked foods.
Ingredients: Water. Malts: Pale, Brown, Melanoidin, Biscuit, Chocolate. Hops: Herkules, Tomahawk, East Kent Goldings, Cascade, Simcoe. Yeast: US-ale.
Amager Bryghus Xiquic And The Hero Twins (9%): Imperial Stout. Samarbejdsbryg med Cigar City Brewing.
Who Xiquic was, is a bit hard to explain – but we all know the hero twins: Wayne Wambles and Jacob Storm – headbrewers of Cigar City Brewing in Tampa, FL and Amager Bryghus, Denmark respectively. Since his first visit at Amager back in 2011 Wayne has been quite the idol for us. We don’t believe it’s possible to find anyone with a bigger heart in brewing – combined with the utmost passion and sense for detail.
Therefore it was a great honor to us that Wayne accepted our invitation to come brew at Amager Bryghus – even on his birthday! A recipe was created from what seemed like an endless stream of emails. The Cigar City signature cedar wood was ordered and a birthday cake was baked.
We had a fun day – we hope you’ll have fun enjoying this double mash cedar infused black pepper Imperial Stout, yeah, no kiddin’. It’s a bit of a beast – but a gentle one.
