Amager Bryghus/Jester King Brewery Danish Metal (10%): Imperial Stout.
It was a true Texan invasion when Jester King came to Amager. We honestly lost count but we believe at least 8 or 9 of these cowboys came riding in – dragging their suitcase rollers along. And we didn’t put up much of a fight since it was the day after the Copenhagen Beer Celebration party. Morten fell asleep in the malt room and Jacob pretty much fell asleep leaning against the mash tun while mashing in. René? Well, we never saw René that day. Oh yes, we were beat. Dead meat we were. Crooked Stave came by, so did The Kernel and Off Color Brewing – or was it somebody else? Sorry, we totally lost track. But Manker was here….we think.
But a beer was indeed brewed in this massive state of being wasted, and a bit of a beast it is. We took the original version of Jester King’s Black Metal – the one with a British ale yeast – and gave it a bit of a Danish spin. Hence Danish Metal was born. It’s rich and potent and powerful – just like a Texas steak. Or something. But we’re babbling. We’ll shut up now. Sorry.

Amager Bryghus/Cigar City Brewing Orange Crush (5%): Session IPA.
To be totally honest, it wasn’t really part of our plans to brew a collaboration beer with Cigar City also this year. But we received a mail from head brewer Wayne Wambles saying: “Hey guys, I’m coming back for the Copenhagen Beer Celebration, why don’t we brew a beer?” And since Wayne is not only one of the nicest persons in the craft beer world but also one of the most innovative and skilled, it was an easy decision to make room in our schedule for another Cigar City collaboration.
The beer of choice turned out to be “Orange Crush” a so called Session IPA – low in alcohol and potency, but high in drinkability. Heavily dry-hopped with the juiciest of American aroma hops: Citra, Mosaic and Simcoe and a solid dose of our secret ingredient, a super fragrant brand of American orange peel.
Orange Crush is a bit of a quaffer – we’re almost certain, that you will like it. And Wayne….you’re welcome back anytime!

Amager Bryghus/Surly Brewing Co. Todd The Axe Man (6,5%): US India Pale Ale.
For quite some time the Amager crew has been discussing this question: which person is the most rock’n’roll in the whole craft beer world – is it Barnaby Struve of Three Floyds or is it Todd Haug of Surly Brewing? In the end it wasn’t really all that difficult to decide since only Todd has played for Laura Dern in a David Lynch movie (yeah, Nicolas Cage was in that same movie, but since when did he count?) AND Todd plays the guitar in both a speed metal band and a stoner band. Add to that that Todd and his wife Linda are some of the nicest people to hang out with. So Todd, here’s to you: “Todd – The Axe Man” – a potent IPA loaded with fresh American aroma hops on a base of rich Golden Promise malt, Surly’s signature malt. Raise a glass to Todd, world class brewer – and master of the axe!
Bonus facts about Todd: yes, he DID actually have a perm in his younger days (his wife confirms) and he does indeed love cats an awful lot.
Ingredienser: Vand. Malt: Golden Promise. Humle: Herkules, Citra, Mosaic. Gær: US-ale.
Amager Bryghus/Prairie Artisan Ales Tulsa Twister (7,5%): Farmhouse Saison.
Hopefully we don’t insult anybody by claiming that Oklahoma was quite a beer wasteland until just recently. Then, along came the brothers Healey, Colin and Chase, with guts, stamina and an awful lot of talent. And well, the rest is history…
Prairie – originally a gypsy operation – soon became one of the most buzzed about craft breweries, not only in Oklahoma, not only in the US, but in the world. So when these dudes were invited to the Copenhagen Beer Celebration it was only natural for us to invite them to Amager also. And naturally the style chosen for our collaboration had to be a Farmhouse Saison, a style that Prairie has very much excelled at brewing. One of the Amager crew is still terribly ashamed of sleeping through a tornado warning at a motel room somewhere in Oklahoma years ago, so out of respect for the powers from above we named the beer “Tulsa Twister”.
As loud and frightening as a twister is, as cool and laid back are the dudes from Prairie. We had a great day of brewing and friendship – we hope it shows in the beer.
Ingredienser: Vand. Malt: Pilsner. Humle: Simcoe. Gær: Belle Saison, Brettanomyces Bruxellensis.
